AX Anxiety & Trauma

Do you have:

Confusion, Fear or frustration??

Feeling irritable, anxious, agitated, nervous?

Feeling overwhelmed, disoriented?

Heart palpatations or Dizziness?

Shortness of breath? Panic Attacks?

If so, it's possible you have an Anxiety Disorder

First, let’s start with something important: anxiety is a normal part of being human. Every single person on this planet experiences anxiety at some point in their life. It is a natural emotional and physical response built into our biology — a signal that tells us when something might be threatening or uncertain. You are not strange or weak for feeling anxious. You are human.

Anxiety is defined as a feeling of unease, worry, or fear that can range from mild to severe. It is closely tied to our body’s “fight-or-flight” response — the ancient survival mechanism that prepares us to either confront or flee from perceived danger. When this system is working well, it keeps us safe. But when it becomes overactive or misfires in situations that aren’t truly dangerous, it can interfere significantly with daily life.

Anxiety disorders are common and you are not alone

Millions of Amreicans suffer from Anxiety

When your brain perceives a threat — whether real or imagined — it triggers a cascade of physical responses. Your heart beats faster to pump blood to your muscles. Your breathing quickens to take in more oxygen. Your muscles tense up, ready for action. Your senses sharpen. Stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol flood your body.

This response was incredibly useful for our ancestors facing physical dangers. Today, however, our brains often trigger this same response in response to work deadlines, social situations, financial stress, or even thoughts about the future — situations that don’t require a physical fight or flight response, but feel just as intense.

Symptoms of Anxiety or Panic Attacks

 Physical Symptoms

These are the body’s physical responses to anxiety. They are real, not imagined:

● Rapid or pounding heartbeat (palpitations)

● Shortness of breath or a feeling of being unable to breathe deeply

● Chest tightness or pain

● Dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint

● Trembling or shaking

● Sweating — especially cold sweats

● Nausea, stomach upset, or digestive issues (sometimes called “butterflies”)

● Headaches and migraines

● Muscle tension, aches, and soreness

● Fatigue and exhaustion even without physical exertion

● Dry mouth

● Tingling or numbness in hands and feet

Emotional Symptoms

● A persistent sense of dread, worry, or impending doom

● Feeling on edge, restless, or unable to relax

● Irritability or feeling easily agitated

● Feeling overwhelmed by ordinary tasks

● Heightened sensitivity to criticism or rejection

● Feeling detached from yourself or your surroundings (dissociation)

● Mood swings or sudden emotional shifts

Cognitive (Thought-Based) Symptoms

● Racing thoughts that are hard to slow down or stop

● Excessive worry about everyday events or worst-case scenarios

● Difficulty concentrating or staying focused

● Mind going blank under pressure

● Intrusive thoughts that are distressing or unwanted

● Trouble making decisions due to fear of making the wrong choice

● Catastrophizing — assuming the worst will happen

● Difficulty separating realistic from unrealistic fears

Behavioral Symptoms

● Avoiding situations, places, or people that trigger anxiety

● Procrastinating on tasks due to fear or overwhelm

● Seeking reassurance frequently from others

● Difficulty sleeping — either falling asleep or staying asleep

● Compulsive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety (e.g., checking, organizing)

● Withdrawing from social situations and relationships

● Increased use of substances like alcohol or caffeine

If you recognize yourself in many of these symptoms, please know that this doesn’t make you weak. It makes you someone who is dealing with something real and challenging. These symptoms have names, they have explanations, and — most importantly — they can be managed.
